New York City based designer Elie Tahari is celebrating his labels 40th anniversary this September.
He grew up in an Israeli orphanage and moved to NYC with basically nothing in the 1970's. He was able to shadow a small store in Greenwich Village which opened his eyes to fashion. He began making flirty dresses and has now become one of the biggest designers in the world. He has such a big presence in New York City that the city has done something special for him to commemorate this milestone in his career.

NYC Mayor Bloomberg has made September 4th Elie Tahari Day. There will be a presentation at his Pop Up shop at 510 5th Avenue at 10:00 and Joan Rivers will be there. This will be the cities gesture to thank him for what he has done for the city. He has also invited Save The Garment Center to the event because he will be donating $35,000 to this fund from the dress designed and sold in Project Runway Season 2 All Stars. This organization works to bring more jobs to the New York City garment district.

Also, to remember this moment he is designing a capsule collection titled Tahari Edition 1974. This will show some of his most memorable silhouettes from the past 40 years. This collection will be shown during the presentation of his Spring 2014 RTW on September 10th. He is such a great designer in women's wear, mens wear and accessories. It is a kind gesture of New York City to show the designer how much they appreciate his work.
"clothing should be quieter than the woman so that her true beauty can shine through"
-Elie Tahari
