Music Monday:Kings of Leon New Album
I will say this up front that I have always known about the band Kings of Leon, but I have never sat down and really listened to their music. I mean, yes their songs on the radio are great but there is so much more to them. With their 6th studio album set to release later this month, the 24th, there has been a lot of buzz around the band. I myself have been interested to learn more about this band.
The band consists of the Followill brothers (Nathan, Caleb and Jared) and their cousin Matthew. They were raised on the road in the South because their father was a preacher and they would go to all sorts of Pentecostal churches. They were also home schooled during their early years and because of that they did not know a lot about secular music. Then in 1997, their father divorced his wife and then left the church. This changed the Followills and Nathan and Caleb went to Nashville to have a new life with rock music. Jared and cousin Matthew joined them and they formed the band in 2000. Their first few albums did not have a strong response but their 4th album,Only by the Night, earned them a grammy in 2008 with songs such as Use Somebody, and Sex on Fire.
Since I have been listening to a lot of Kings of Leon, I cannot wait for their album Mechanical Bull which already has great songs released such as Supersoaker and Wait For Me. Their sound is a combination of southern rock with rock and roll from their influences The Rolling Stones, The Clash and the Pixies. If your like me and never really gave their music a good listen, you should do so now because it is just great music with a very interesting story that should not be overlooked. I have no idea what I was thinking.
