Emmys 2013

Emmys 2013: Top Trends, Best and Worst Dressed
Awards season has officially begun with the 2013 Primetime Emmys this past sunday night. It was hosted by none other than the great Neil Patrick Harris. Whenever he hosts anything it is always amazing. As great as the show was I was way more interested in what everyone was wearing. These were my reactions to the fashions seen on the red carpet.

Lace & Sheer
J. Mendel
Marios Schwab

Lace and sheer were a big trend seen on the red carpet at this years Emmys. Kate Mara (left) looks stunning in this white J. Mendel gown. I think that lace and sheer is used very tastefully here and by using it only in the bodice it is still elegant. Aubrey Plaza (right) looks equally beautiful in this Marios Schwab gown. I think that the silhouette is glamorous but the nude fabric under the black lace is not my taste. Also, it makes her look much older than she is.

Blush & Ivory
Armani Prive
Marchesa

Givenchy
Calvin Klein

Another big trend on the red carpet was blush and ivory gowns. These colors are perfect for a big occasion such as the Emmys. Claire Danes (upper left) looks beautiful in this Armani Prive gown. The neckline is a little too plunging for my taste but she can wear anything. Kerry Washington (upper right) also looks amazing in this ivory Marchesa gown. The flower details throughout are stunning and Marchesa always makes red carpet ready gowns so I am sure we will see more of them. Rose Byrne (lower left) looks gorgeous in this blush Calvin Klein gown. The tiny amount of skin showing is just enough to make this gown a show stopper. January Jones (lower right) looks stunning as well in this blush strapless Givenchy gown. The silhouette is simple but the lace detail in the skirt make it a stand out among the sea of gowns.

Worst Dressed
Armani
Prada

Overall, I did not think the carpet was filled with terrible gowns. These two however did stand out. So You Think You Can Dance host Cat Deeley (Left) usually takes risks with her fashion choices but this was not a good choice. It is not bold but it is not flattering. The cutouts are in a weird place and the added fabric around the waist make her appear larger than she is. Lena Dunham (right) made a bold decision to wear this Prada gown because it really catches your attention. I absolutely love her and her show so this is merely about her gown. The silhouette is too grand for her and makes her seem larger than she is. I do however like the bodice and I am not totally against the pattern. On her it is just not flattering.

Best Dressed
Ralph Lauren
Thakoon

Prada
These gowns all are so effortlessly beautiful with their simple silhouettes and bold colors. Allison Williams (upper left) looks stunning in this strapless blue Ralph Lauren gown. It shows off her body while not overwhelming it and allowing her beauty to shine through. Taylor Schilling (upper right) also looks glamorous in this white Thakoon dress. Her hair makes her look old hollywood while the slit in the front of the dress and the cut of the bodice make it appear modern. My top favorite of the night was non other than Downton Abbey's Lady Mary; Michelle Dockery is wearing Prada. The gown is very classy but the slight high low detail in the skirt and the bold color choices make it very modern. The colors would not be your first choice to pair together, but it works.
