Paris Fashion Week

Paris Fashion Week
As Paris Fashion Week 2013 comes to a close, I have gathered some highlights from the top designers.  Overall, I feel that each city has been very different and that is what I absolutely love about fashion. The city of Paris is rich in art and glamour and each designer demonstrated why it is also the city of Fashion.
Jean Charles de Castelbajac

Jean Charles de Castelbajac is a French designer that I just discovered and I am so glad I did because he makes come very interesting clothing. He created a beautiful collection combining effortlessly art and fashion. The placement of the arm and hand silhouettes on the dresses is interesting and something I haven't seen. Also, his poems he wrote on the clothes is very cool and adds a powerful impact to the simple silhouettes. He is a visionary.

Dior

Raf Simons has once again shown why he was the best choice as Creative Director for Dior. This collection stayed true to Classic Dior silhouettes but was very much Raf Simons. He referred to the show as 'Trans Dior' and the models all had slicked back hair and clean makeup. There were many beautiful gowns as well as suits which makes the reference understandable. The prints were very floral and psychedelic. The collection also included a finale of models wearing dresses and suits with badges or insignias in a way making them appear that they are all part of the secret society of Dior. I absolutely loved it.

Saint Laurent

Saint Laurent's latest collection screamed edgy punk. The brand is really reinventing themselves with new creative director Hedi Slimane and he is giving a new life to the French brand. The pairing of sleek suits and leather jackets with dresses for the punk girl were amazing. I always think that if I had a great skinny leg pant and suit I would wear it all the time because they are powerful. This collection was chic and punk without trying too hard.

Valentino

Now to look at a collection that is the complete opposite of Saint Laurent, Valentino has shown a collection full of glamour and class. The silhouettes are very modern but the textiles and details are very reminiscent of Greece, North Africa and Egypt. The designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli were inspired by an opera and I know absolutely nothing about opera but I do know that I love this collection. There is elegance just dripping from these garments in the accessories and the rich color palette. This is my favorite collection from Paris Fashion week for those reasons.
